Montezuma Megaways Slot Review + Bonus Offers December 5, 2021
While not the first game from WMS to feature this theme and title, I fully expect Montezuma Megaways to be the favorite version of the slot, for most players. They took the original Montezuma slot, and turned it into an even better game, with a different game engine but with the same graphics.
Montezuma Megaways was turned into a 6-reel game, which offers the standard system, with up to 7 symbols per reel and up to 117,649 Megaways per spin. Spend $0.20 to $20, and the game can pay up to 12,500x the stake back ($250,000).
Count on this one being a title with High volatility, but at the same time there is also a 95.92% RTP which feels acceptable (though others do better in this category). Whether it’s free spins with multipliers that go only up, Calendar scatters, Temple Wilds or the Respin Wheel, its features will also contribute and make the game interesting.
WMS is hardly the developer to be looking into, if you’re a fan of slots with awesome graphics. Nonetheless, I found the graphics of Montezuma Megaways to be acceptable. Inspired by the Aztec civilization, it features several of its characters, idols, monsters and wild animals o the reels. Eventually, they still end up with lower value Royals though, and those have nothing to do with the Aztec style.

Bonus Features Deconstructed
Once the game loads, you’re likely to notice that the 6 reels are accompanied by a four-symbol wheel at the top. It’s just the equivalent of the horizontal row of extra symbols, which has been used in many of the other Megaways releases.
Cascading Reels are in place and expected to trigger whenever a combination is formed. You get a new wave of symbols, while the old ones which formed a combo get removed.
As for the major features that Montezuma Megaways introduces, one would be the wild symbol, here shown as the Aztec Temple. The downside is that only the Montezuma Wheel can get it, at the top, so it’s not quite as common as I would’ve liked.
The Respin Wheel is something that can trigger at random, after losing spins. It uses the Wheel at the top, which gets turned, so that you have an additional chance to form a combo.
Scatters show up as Aztec Calendar icons, which you need three times or more, before the free spins trigger. A wheel decides how many free spins will be offered. A multiplier, which doesn’t have an upper limit, will be available. It goes up by 1x, with each cascade that triggers as a result of a win. While you can’t retrigger free spins, any sets of 2+ scatters will give you additional spins of the wheel, and a bigger multiplier to play with from that point forward.
The bonus guarantee, which is offered with the free games, is something that I particularly liked. It guarantees that you win at least 30x the stake from this feature, or if not, you get paid that much and the smaller prize gets canceled.
Out of the two Montezuma slots, I’d recommend this one. It’s more interesting, has better payouts and I liked its features more as well. As far as Megaways slots go, you will find others with better themes, graphics and even slightly higher RTP or bigger potential, so in that particular category it’s an average title.
